Pine, as a fragrance is almost always associated with the holiday season, especially with Christmas. For me personally, it brings back memories of past Christmases spent with my family decorating the tree and baking cookies. It is the scent that fills up our homes in early December until January and refreshes the house in the midst of winter.
Pine essence is obtained through the process of steam distillation, where dry steam is passed through needles, twigs and cones from an array of pine species, particularly Pinus Sylvestris, and volatilized steam compounds are then collected and condensed into receivers to make the oil. This essence can then be used in any perfume as a top note in the woody scent family.
Stay tuned for Wednesday's post where I'll share some of my favourite home scents for the holidays!
